Ball State's Theron Smith to Undergo Knee Surgery
Theron Smith, the nation's seventh-leading rebounder
last season for Ball State, will have surgery Friday for a torn ligament in his
right knee. Smith, who averaged 19.6 points and 10.6 rebounds a game for the Cardinals
last season, torn his anterior cruciate ligament during a workout in the last
week, the school said Thursday. Coach Tim Buckley said he expected Smith to be back with the team by the
start of practice in October. Smith had made himself eligible for this month's NBA draft, but withdrew his
name on Monday to return to Ball State for his senior season.
